The Hawk For The Hall

Mike Downey compares Mark McGwire's numbers with Andre Dawson's and asks: Where is the Hall of Fame support for the Hawk? Dawson was 73 votes short of the Hall last year.

Time to return to baseball-reference.com:

Mark McGwire: 583 HR, 1,626 hits, 1,414 RBI, .263 ave, .394 obp, .588 slug, 12 sb (just for fun), 12-time All Star, 1987 AL Rookie of the Year, one Gold Glove, led league in HR four times, 7th all-time in home runs.

Andre Dawson: 438 HR, 2,774 hits, 1,591 RBI, .279 ave, .323 obp, .482 slug, 314 sb, 8-time All Star, 1977 NL Rookie of the Year, 1987 NL MVP, eight Gold Gloves, led league in HR once, 35th all-time in home runs. Also: 9th all-time in sacrifice flies.

Clearly not first-ballot numbers, but Dawson has waited long enough.

Additionally, Buster Olney says Dawson is one of seven players he voted for. Buster doesn't say who the other six are.
