With all of the excitement this week around the signings of Alfonso Soriano, Mark DeRosa, Wade Miller, Aramis Ramirez and Kerry Wood, it is pretty clear the Cubs will be a better team in 2007 than they were in 2006. But how will the 2007 Cubs measure up against the 2003 Cubs - the last team everyone enjoyed watching before the long slow implosion began in the last week of 2004? Here's a position by position look, first 2003 and then 2007: C: Damian Miller vs Michael Barrett. Advantage: 2007 (offense only). 1B: Randall Simon/Eric Karros vs Derrek Lee. Advantage: 2007. 2B: Mark Grudzielanek vs Mark DeRosa. Advantage: Push. SS: Alex Gonzalez vs Cesar Izturis. Advantage: Izturis (assuming he's not broken). 3B: Aramis Ramirez (second half) vs Aramis Ramirez. Advantage: 2007. RF: Sammy Sosa vs Jacques Jones. Advantage: 2003.
