Go Slow: Tender Groin At Work
Written by wrigleyville

It's always a great sign when you sign a player for five years, $73 million and he has to answer questions about not running out grounders. From cubs.com, on Aramis Ramirez's news conference today: "However, Ramirez has been criticized for not running out balls and not hustling on plays. His response? 'They can say whatever they want, but there is stuff that fans and even [the media] doesn't know,' Ramirez said. "A lot of people play hurt. Not only me -- they pitch hurt, play hurt. That's our job, to go out and play the game." But Cubs officials helpfully said there was a reason: He didn't want to pull his groin by running too hard to first. Which I understand, as I've pulled a hammy getting off the couch. Then again, Aramis' answer begs the question: How long has he been hurt? He was not the most hustling of ball players the day he came over from Pittsburgh in 2003, and at no time since then has he been confused from David Eckstein. That must be one slow healing groin. That said, I'm happy he re-signed. Hope you're feeling better, Aramis...
