The Cubs got Alfonso Soriano for eight years and $136 million - an average of $17 million a year. The Astros got Carlos Lee for six years for $100 million - an average of $16.7 million a year. Fairly similar, though the critics of the Cubs will say it's the money they will be paying in years seven and eight that will come back to haunt them. At this point, however, I just don't care about seven and eight years from now. I really, really don't. While that may be shortsighted, I just can't see how owing a 37- and 38-year-old Soriano $34 million years from now isn't offset by having a 31- through 36-year-old Soriano on the front end of that contract. No?
