Jim Hendry Is Confused

In a gambit on par with the College of Coaches, the Chicago Cubs apparently are going to use five starting pitchers on Opening Day in Cincinnati. At least according to Jim Hendry: "My goal was to give Lou seven or eight choices for five (starting) spots and let Lou and Larry decide at the end of the spring who's pitching [where]. We wanted to have enough inventory to where I didn't have to go to Lou on March 28 and say, 'Gee, I'm really sorry, but we've got to go with so-and-so.' He's going to have five good ones out there, I promise you, on April 2 in Cincinnati." Maybe they can just have nine pitchers pitch one inning every day.
