Breaking with the all-ivy-advertising-all-the-time trend at the Trib, Phil Rogers contemplates trading Carlos Zambrano away - and suggests Jim Hendry get to work on it pronto.
Rogers says trading stars isn't unheard of and points to the Phillies trade of Bobby Abreu last year, sparking a Phillies turnaround. He doesn't mention the Red Sox trading Nomar to the Cubs in 2004, before winning the World Series. But neither player is a 25-year-old ace, so the Cubs would have to land oodles of talent - and it's hard to imagine another team getting rid of their two or three best prospects without being assured they can sign Carlos Zambrano longterm.
What do you want him to say, Rick? The Cubs have no chance? Then you'd be calling him a defeatist loser who has no business on a baseball diamond.
Stay classy, Rick Morrissey. Labels: Carlos Zambrano, Chicago Cubs, Ted Lilly
