Lay Off The New Guy

One disturbing trend I've noticed at the past three spring training games is that fans are attacking new 3rd Base Coach Mike Quade for holding runners at 2nd and 3rd. This is just absurd. For one, these are spring training games. Sending our runners home to face a collision with opposing catchers is dangerous and shouldn't be done in games that don't count. Two, we have a good line-up this year and it makes sense to leave runners in scoring position and let them be hit in. Just ask Red Sox fans what it was like to watch Dale Sveum wave every runner home the past couple of seasons. Why end a rally on the basepaths when you don't need to? Quade has shown that he's willing to wave guys in when it makes sense, like he did with Barrett's inside-the-park homer today. I like the fact that Quade is being conservative, but he was booed mercilessly yesterday and today. It was uncalled for, and the Cubs fans in attendance need to shut up and wise up.
