Prior? Tradeable? That's Unpossible.

Earlier this year, Prior's shoulder was declared legally dead, in a post that gave Wrigleyville the heebie jeebies.


ESPN is reporting that rival executives say the Cubs are willing to trade Mark Prior. It could take a while to get a deal done. I would imagine the Cubs are going to expect an unreasonable package, maybe including some paperclips and a worn out tire -- and I just don't think other teams will be willing to part with that much for Prior.


Speaking of, why in the world is this expected to be a difficult contract negotiation? Cubs want to give him a one-year deal with an option for '09, but it's thought that Prior may want a longer term contract. Well I'm sure he would. And the Cubs would also like 20 wins a year.


Why can't we just give him a one-year contract, no option? "Thanks, Mark. Here's a few million bucks for one year. Now go back to Dr. Andrews' office and we'll see you next November when it's time to renegotiate your contract again."
