Keep Katey From Arlington Away

In the latest Cubs.com mailbag, Katey V. of Arlington, Virginia, admits to being a jinx from way back: I've been searching without much success, but was wondering what day at Wrigley in 1980 was Dave Kingman Day? The reason I ask is because that was technically my first Cubs game. My mother went to that game, and she was pregnant with me, and she can only remember it was "Kingman's Day." I need to see if the Cubs won that day, because it seems as though every game I go to, they lose. If they did lose that day, I will stay away if they make it to the postseason -- not that I'm superstitious or anything.-- Katey V., Arlington, Va. Hope you enjoy the games on TV, Katey. Dave Kingman Day was Aug. 7, 1980, yet the slugger wasn't at the ballpark to celebrate. Kingman was on the disabled list, and spent the day on his boat. Fans got T-shirts that day that had a charcoal drawing of Kingman by artist George Pollard. Pittsburgh beat the Cubs, 11-3. Speaking for everyone, Katey, please stay far away from any Cubs games for the next week - and month. Don't even watch them. Please.
