Dusty And The Brittle Rotation

Dusty Baker’s two-year ESPN contract allows him to leave the Worldwide Leader if a major league team decides it needs a manager to ruin the confidence of all of its everyday prospects while using young pitchers until their arms go flying off.

The Tribune story contains this tidbit:

The Cubs' $300 million-plus commitment this winter wasn't lost on Baker, who was relegated to working with a brittle starting rotation during his final two seasons. "Looking back, it makes you a little distraught," Baker said. "They made a lot of moves. It makes you wonder, but you get over it. I like Lou. There are a lot of guys I'm pulling for over there."

I’m always torn writing about Dusty. I really, really like him, and it is good he’s gracious. But shouldn’t that first sentence have some recognition that he may have contributed in some eensy way to the brittleness of the starting rotation?

I fucking hate Dusty Baker. He's an abuser of the most valuable commodity a team has and he doesn't do it to the point where his abuse might be questionable, he does it to the point where you have a step back and ask yourself....."Is this man fucking retarded?"

Jim Hendry is equally to blame for the brittleness of the pitchers because he's the ass whipe that hired Dusty knowing that he had a group of talented young pitchers and even worse he kept him around for so long.

If any team values its young pitching, Dusty Baker will never have a job in MLB again.
