A Good Day for the Blood Pressure
Written by wrigleyville

The Cubs and Pirates take a day to reflect today, as PNC will be empty until tomorrow. So, the Cubs stand at 4-3 so far through the first seven games. What do you think of the team to this point? Keep in mind, it's only been seven games. There are things that will in no way continue (like Marmol appearing in 86% of games [we only wish that his arm were made of rubber] and Reed Johnson starting half the season's games in CF). There's been some real promising things to date: Kerry Wood has been ridiculous as the closer with 3 saves and consistently hitting the 94-98 mph range on his fastball. Derrek Lee has emerged from his Spring Training cocoon and is now lighting the world on fire. Kosuke Fukudome, the team Asian, is the hottest Cub thus far and proving his worth in the field, at the plate, and on the basepaths. However, there've been some things to be concerned about. Pie has only started four games and not done much. Small sample size, I know, but we'll just have to give him a chance. Ryan Theriot isn't getting it done yet at the plate. But, he did spark the winning inning yesterday in Pittsburgh with a leadoff walk in the 12th. If we have to have him in at SS, then he should be hitting 8th in this lineup. Ted Lilly and Rich Hill have crapped themselves thus far, but in Lilly's defense (and in fear of having my head severed and stuck in his freezer) he didn't get much help from Cedeno and Rammy yesterday. I'm just happy baseball's back.
