Cubs Statistics At The One-Eighth Pole

Just over an eighth into the season, the Cubs have the best record and the highest scoring offense in baseball. Go figure. How has this happened? Some semi-interesting tidbits 21 games in: 1. The Cubs are 11-0 when leading after the fourth inning. Which means the Cubs should try to lead after the fourth inning, because they tend to win when that happens. 2. The Cubs have outscored opponents 23-3 in third innings. Which means the Cubs like to score runs in the third inning. 3. The Cubs have cumulatively outscored opponents in all but three innings this season - the fourth, sixth and ninth - though the Cubs have only batted in 11 of 21 ninth innings due to 10 home wins. Which means the Cubs should just skip the fourth, sixth and ninth innings. 4. The Cubs are 4-2 in one-run games, reversing last year's first-half disaster in such games. Which means close games are going the Cubs way this year, unlike early last year. All of which means very little, other than it all adds up to a 15-6 record. Which is a good thing.
