Fox let Mets coach Howard Johnson introduce the batting order. He used the opportunity to show off his porn star mustache and plug Delgado for the Hall of Fame: "Next up is Carlos Delgado, who is a Hall of Famer, in my opinion." Delgado, who turns 36 in June, is a career .280 hitter; has 432 home runs; finished 2nd, 4th and 6th in MVP voting in various years; has made the All-Star team twice - and has comparable career stats through age 35 to Fred McGriff, Frank Thomas, Jose Canseco, Jim Thome and Juan Gonzalez. Not bad, but he's only been an All-Star twice? That seems to be a disqualifier. Then again, I know someone who is a career .280 hitter; hit 438 home runs; finished 1st, 2nd and 2nd in MVP voting in various years; made eight All-Star games; won eight Gold Gloves - and has career stats that are similar to Billy Williams, Tony Perez, Dave Parker, Al Kaline and Harold Baines. Alas, he is not in the Hall, either.
