The Olympic Fever Strikes

I love the Olympics. Always have. Always will. This year, I was a little bored by them - for a day. Then the relay happened and I'm back on board. I'm sure the IOC is thrilled. Anyway, last night's excitement means it's list-making time. (A rule: You can't include it unless you saw it. So, you can't say Jesse Owens, though that was badass, or Athens 1896 or Ali in Rome, etc.) Here's a list to get started. Please supplement or comment as appropriate. 1. Miracle On Ice. Lake Placid. 1980. Will never be topped. 2. Muhammad Ali lights the Olympic Flame. Atlanta. 1996. If that didn't get to you, you're a bad person. 3. Men's 4x100 freestyle relay. Beijing. 2008. May be too high. May be too low. Time will tell. 4. Dan Jansen wins gold. Lillehammer. 1994. He didn't fall down! 5. Eric Heiden wins five gold medals. Lake Placid. 1980. That's for the Wisconsin readers. And, of course, there was this unforgettable moment. I did watch a stirring badminton match between Ireland and Germany the other morning, but that hasn't made the list yet.
