Richard Justice Keeps Pimping The 2009 Astros

Richard Justice has this to say about the 2009 Houston Astros: If you’re inclined to write off this season before it begins, don’t. In nine of the past 12 seasons, the Astros have made the playoffs or entered the final weekend in contention. They’ll be in a winnable division in 2009 and can be competitive if a few things go right. Let’s run down the list: Hampton and Kaz Matsui need to stay healthy; Wandy Rodriguez and Brian Moehler have to win 30 games and pitch 350 innings. Winnable division? A month ago, Justice said the Astros would be the favorites in the Central if they re-sign Randy Wolf and reacquire Andy Pettitte. Neither has happened. Plus, they got rid of Ty Wigginton. But maybe they will be the best team in the Central. That is, of course, if there is no inclement weather in the greater Houston metropolitan area.
