With Sabathia In NYC, What's Next For Brewers?

The Brewers gamely offered CC Sabathia $100 million to stay in the land of cheese and congestive heart failure, but he turned them down for 61 percent more money from the Yankees. So does that mean the Brewers have $100 million to spend on free agents? Not so fast: Melvin had said all along that Sabathia was a “special case” and losing him didn’t mean he’d roll the $100 million over into an offer for another free agent pitcher. The Brewers were willing to have a higher payroll with Sabathia and stretch their budget. “There’s not a lot of starting pitching that I think we’ll bid on,” said Melvin. Which I take to mean the Brewers were just putting on a show for their fans, as they were certain CC would never accept their offer. If you were ready to spend that money on one guy, why not spread it out over three (if prudent, fiscally and basebally)? There are certainly some gaps to fill on that team - including two starting pitchers. Matt has some ideas on which pitchers to pursue.
