WV23 Year In Review: August
Written by wrigleyville
Friday, 26 December 2008
The dog days arrive, and that meant Olympic viewing, Dusty Baker follies and the Brewers trying to maim CC. Oh, and the Cubs built a healthy lead with Alfonso Soriano back in the lineup. (The full Year In Review series can be found here.) August 1: Jim Edmonds knows Ned Yost is a punk. August 3: ESPN and Brett Favre hold the sport-viewing public hostage. August 4: The ever-classy Philadelphia Inquirer celebrates injuries to the New York Mets. August 4: Prince Fielder attacks Manny Parra in the dugout. Ned Yost mildly looks on and leaves Fat Ass in the game. August 8: A Cardinals fan is beside himself with hatred for the Cubs. August 10: IAN and Dusty's favorite girl is cavorting with Brewers. August 10: Jim Edmonds annoys Tony LaRussa, reason enough to like Jim Edmonds. August 10: Joe Morgan thinks math is hard. August 11: The greatest Olympic moments ever. August 11: Dusty succeeds in unclogging the bases in Cincinnati, trading away Junior and Adam Dunn. August 14: Once and for all, WV23 catalogues all of Ryan Theriot's TOOTBLANs from 2008. They are impressive. August 15: The TOOTBLAN-O-Meter is unveiled. August 16: Cubs maim Tom Glavine, after taking down Chris Carpenter and Yovani Gallardo. August 17: Ronnie Woo Woo attends Bernie Mac's funeral in full Cubs uniform. August 18: After CC Sabathia once again needlessly pitches a complete game, WV23 asks if the Brewers are trying to maim him. Brewers fans curse at us; Rob Neyer agrees with us. August 20: With the Reds 22.5 games back, Dusty Baker says: "I have never wanted to win more than I do right here, and I will, but this is Wayne Krivsky's team, not Walt Jocketty's and not mine. I just hope there is enough out there after the season that we can get to help us." Dusty Baker is a leader of men. August 20: The Reds send a letter to fans that apologizes for sucking. August 20: WV23 notices that Rich Harden misses a lot of bats. A lot. August 21: Chuckie Hacks notes that Ned Yost has used a batting order based solely on field position for 39 of the previous 40 games. For the record, that batting order was 2B, SS, LF, 1B, RF, 3B, CF, C, P. August 22: Sarge announces he hates the Little League World Series. August 26: WV23 notes an extremely questionable Obama association. August 27: The Brewers and Cardinals continue to squabble. How cute. August 29: The Cubs have more home wins (50) than the Nationals do anywhere (49). August 31: The three Cubs from Louisiana keep tabs on their families with the approach of a massive hurricane. No whining involved, however. See September.
