The New York Times parachutes into Wisconsin to let us know how the Brett Favre drama is affecting the good people of Green Bay. Turns out they're divided, complete with Wisconsinisms:

“I can’t understand why he can’t see what he’s doing to the Packer organization. I do feel bad for him — I think he did retire too soon,” Halverson said. “But he’s a grown man, too. He should have realized that. I would love to see him back, but I wish it was on better terms. They are a nice family but geez, what did they expect?”

Ya sure. And then there's this:

“We were all raised with the three things Vince Lombardi said were important in life: God, family and the Green Bay Packers,” Serafin said. “But if Michelangelo comes out of retirement and tells the pope he wants to paint another chapel, does the pope tell him to go have lunch and he’ll think about it? Yes, he’s been immature, but he has a lot of issues. And he went to work every day.”

Just so you have this straight: Ted Thompson is the Pope. The Green Bay Packers are the church. And Brett Favre is Michelangelo.

Seems right.
