A Kerry Wood Update

This post is for those of you who said Kerry Wood shouldn't be the closer because "he is not a closer" or because he is "too wild" or because Carlos Marmol is on the team or because our Founding Fathers let you have opinions even when it is not in the best interests of the Republic. A few numbers: 1. Kerry is now 18 for 22 in save opportunities (82 percent), which isn't as good as 22 for 22 but I'll take it. Dennis Eckersley had a career save percentage of 84 percent, with high water years of 96 percent and 94 percent (for perspective). 2. Kerry has converted his last eight opportunities (100 percent!). 3. Kerry's ERA is 2.48. 4. Kid K's strikeout-to-walk ratio is 11 to 2. 5. Kid K has struck out 44 batters in 36.1 innings. Plus, as noted before, Kerry Wood is simply a bad, bad man. Just keeping you honest. And, yes, I realize this post all but guarantees his arm will fall off this week. I'm sorry, Kerry.
