Congratulations Are in Order

I know this is a mostly Cubs blog where even the guy who can't think (me) says something from time to time, but I'm gonna veer from the norm (which is the norm for me) and congratulate LSU's baseball team for one of the most memorable serieses (esses?). EVER (bold font for emphasis).

All the Tigers did, in the waning throws of their stadium's (Alex Box Stadium) existence (at least, for this version of The Box), was this:

Overcame a 7-2 deficit and possible elimination from traveling to Rosenblatt Stadium and competing in the College World Series. In the eigth inning of that game, LSU knocked home two to make the score 7-4, then erupted for five in the ninth to take the lead and eventually beat U. C. Irvine 9-7.

Finally, they poured on the offense in The Box last night to a 21-7 win over the Eaters to make it to Omaha. I'll never for get this, as well as Warren Morris' CWS-clinching HR in the ninth inning in 1996. Equally as memorable, if you ask me.

Update: Because video makes things better, almost always (and thanks to WV for the help), here is Morris' life-altering (he was a starter for the Pirates and Tigers, then retired in 2006 and is now working at a bank in Louisiana...so, there's that) bomb vs. Miami in 1996:




Congratulations to LSU and good luck this weekend in Omaha. If you are interested, CWS games begin this weekend (on Saturday) and LSU's first game is Sunday vs. the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. I, for one, think the College World Series is one of the greatest events in all of sports. I rank it above March Madness, but that's only my opinion.
