Because The Cubs Are So Well Run
Written by wrigleyville

The very frustrated and astute sports editor of the the Clarion (Pa.) News proposes basing the presidency on how the Cubs run the seventh inning stretch: Actually, in the none of the above program, a different citizen would be chosen to be president for every day of the four year term by way of a lottery system. It would be like getting picked for jury duty. It would be your civic duty to be president for a day. And being president for a day would pay more than jury duty. I figure that anyone who is president for a day should get the president’s one-day before taxes pay of $1,096 That’s nothing to sneeze at. The president for a day program would be much like how the Chicago Cubs have had a different celebrity sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch of their home games since Harry Caray died in 1998. Sometimes the celebrities do a very good job, and other times they are el stinko. That is just the chance you take, because nothing in life is certain. Simply brilliant. I can't see how this could fail. Importantly, this disclaimer introduces this editorial: The editorial expressed here is the view of the paper and may not be shared by Clarion News staff members. Isn't this backwards? Doesn't the disclaimer usually say, "The views expressed here are the views of the author and not the Clarion News and Omnicom Inc."? Or is the logic here so solid that the Clarion News can't separate itself?
