Of Brewers, Cubs And Appreciation
Written by wrigleyville

Our friend and frequent visitor Matt from Chuckie Hacks takes another whack at Cubs fans today in his Cubs preview, which is made up entirely of comments from the mouth breathers who frequent ESPN.com message boards - allowing him to make the following point: In summary....Jesus how to summarize this ridiculousness? I think in sum, Cubs fans think their team is one of the 5 best in the NL (might not be far off there), they can't help but rip on the Brewers and their fans at every opportunity (appreciate the concern, guys), they're loved even if they lose (get over it already), and you wouldn't want to walk in the shoes of a third generation Cubs fan (no argument there) and they probably won't win the World Series (unless they get Brian Roberts). You can read the examples he chose on your own and see that they are ridiculous. But ... Matt and his friends at Chuckie Hacks have taken a poke at the Cubs at least nine times in the month of March alone (appreciate the concern, guys). Not only that, there's a little gem in ESPN The Magazine's baseball issue, in which they let members of Congress write a quick review of their hometown teams as the kicker to each team's preview. Paul Ryan (a good man and congressman, by the way) got to weigh in on the, um, Brewers: "The Brewers have good hitters one through eight, and I see some holes in that Cubby lineup. Felix Pie has yet to produce at the major league level, and no one knows what to expect from Fukudome. When you look at the Brewers' lineup, all their players are young and on the way up." Appreciate the concern, Paul, but have you seen Jason Kendall play baseball? Or are you assuming he's not batting "one through eight," as the brilliant Ned Yost is planning on batting the pitcher eighth? And does defense count for anything? Pitching?
