Welcome To The Dusty Baker Experience
Written by wrigleyville

The Reds inexplicably signed Corey Patterson and Jerry Hairston, Jr. today, albeit to minor league contracts. That's not the funny part (though it is funny). The funny part is the reaction of Reds fans, who are now realizing what comes with Dusty Baker as their manager. To wit: To think I had been concerned about the $3M wasted on the mop-up reliever Stanton. Now I'm concerned about the wasted $3M on a more impactful position, the manager. At least McKannin was going to use the developed guys and others that WK brought in on his own accord. And: Darren Lewis is still available. He was Dusty's first CF in 1993 and he in only 40! And: How can a CF (Patterson) be talked into signing a minor league contract with the Reds when he is only 28 and made $4.3M last year when he knows they have the TOP, TOP, TOP CF can't miss prospect ready to go. He also knows that they have at least two other better leadoff hitters. Because Dusty made him a promise to allow the Reds to be a worse team so that he can play, that's how. And: That's great... since these are minor league deals... low risk, high reward since they are both good veterans that can help the youngsters in the spring... I just hope we don't have Patterson leading off on opening day... And: WTF?!? A below average hitting centerfielder who has a difficult time getting on base! I guess we just hung out Hopper and Freel to dry. Considering he's left-handed, I reckon we just let Bruce know that he will be in Louisville all year. Not the 'change' I was hoping for this year. Disgusting move. Good times. Good times, indeed.
