A Question For Outraged Pennsylvanians

Will Pennsylvania voters and assorted big thinkers outraged by a previous incursion of politics into sport be pleased by Senator Obama's role in delaying the start of Game 6 of the World Series? (Should Game 6 come to be, that is.) Case in point: Governor Palin just dropped a ceremonial puck in less than 90 seconds, something that caused Will Bunch of the Philly Daily News to sputter in indignation. Delaying the World Series - the Phillies' first World Series in 15 years - to take another 30 minutes of our time? Silence from Mr. Bunch. I'm starting to think he didn't mean it when he wrote: "Sports and politics should not mix, not here and not now, less than four weeks before such a critical presidential election." Lest you protest, buying time and delaying the start of the national pastime certainly is mixing sports and politics. And the lead-in audience to a World Series game certainly is greater than the 19,500 who attended the Flyers game at the Wachovia Center and the tens of thousands more who watched on television. (Disclaimer: I, for one, have no problem with Senator Obama buying the time; I can wait another 15 minutes for the first pitch. Just as I had no problem with Governor Palin dropping the puck.)
