A World Series Prediction (Updated With Winners!)
Written by wrigleyville
Saturday, 25 October 2008
Some reporter for some paper will write some variation on the following to recap tonight's rain-delayed World Series game: "Philadelphia waited 15 years to host a World Series game, so what's another 91 minutes? The Phillies/Rays won a rain-delayed ..." Or (especially if the Phillies win): "Jamie Moyer waited 22 years to pitch in his first World Series game. The 45-year-old didn't mind waiting another 91 minutes Saturday night before ..." If I'm wrong? Well, you'll get a refund. Sunday morning update: And we have a double winner! Phil Sheridan of the Philadelphia Inquirer: Phil Sheridan: After Phils waited this long, what's 91 minutes more? Philadelphia waited 15 years to host another World Series game. Jamie Moyer waited 45 to pitch one. Look at it that way and 91 minutes doesn't seem like such a big deal. I should win some sort of blogging award. Wait, there's more - from the same Philly Inquirer (editors have the day off?): Bill Lyon: Jamie Moyer waits and works By Bill Lyon He did what old men do best. Wait. Jamie Moyer, the oldest player in baseball, waited through 22 major-league seasons to get here, in a World Series, so a little longer wouldn't matter. The Associated Press, of course: PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jamie Moyer waited 45 years and 22 major league seasons to make his first World Series start. Then a 91-minute rain delay made the Phillies lefty with the 80 mph fastball wait some more. And another double winner: By Bill Evans This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it PHILADELPHIA - Jamie Moyer waited 22 years to pitch in his first World Series. Philadelphia fans have waited 15 years since their last home World Series game. And the fans waited through a 91-minute rain delay and nearly four hours of action in Game 3 of the World Series Saturday night. And Allentown weighs in: By Keith Groller What's a little rain when you've waited 15 years to host a World Series game? What's a start at 10:06 p.m. Eastern Time when you've waited a lifetime to pitch on baseball's biggest stage as Jamie Moyer has? And the big boys, this time from the Washington Post: By Mark Viera PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 25 -- No only had Philadelphia fans suffered for the 15 years before the World Series to return here, they also had to wait for a 91-minute rain delay Saturday night and for the past two games as the Phillies bat fell silent. And on and on it goes.
