Dusty's Wild and Weird, and Profitable, Night in Vegas

Just back from a road trip to Vegas...which ranged from the bizarre to the cool to the adrenaline rush. First, I was getting killed at the tables so thought I'd go to what I know best -- baseball. Headed to the huge new Sports Book at the Palazzo -- very nice and a must do next time in Vegas --for Game 1 of the World Series. The Bizarre: Place was dominated by Phillies fans. They're everywhere...even Vegas. And guess who was there: Pete Rose. Wow. I mean what are the odds of running into Pete Rose at a sports book in Vegas on Game 1 of the World Series? Like, 5-1? Anyway, Pete decides he's a comedian and takes the mike to say hi to the crowd. His first comments: "Go Cubs." Greeted with boos. He follows that with: "Do you know what God said to the Cubs? Don't do anything until I get back?" Greeted with laughs and 1 boo -- from me. At least he saved himself by ending with this one-liner: "If I were a betting man, I'd bet on the Phillies." The Cool: Mike Maddux was also there, likely in his role as a former Philly. Got to spend quite a bit of time talking to him. Very, very, very nice man. A truly good and classy guy. Brewers are lucky to have him and hopefully their next manager keeps him. And he made it clear that the Brewers eyes and first priority are on the Cubs next year. The Adrenaline Rush: To come full circle with this post....I was getting killed at the tables so decided to go with what I know. Went to sports book put $50 down on Philly beating Tampa (sucks it was only even money.) Then saw that you could bet on who would hit the first home run. So I put another $50 down on Chase Utley. Let's just say when Chase hit one out in the first, I hadn't had such an adrenaline rush since being at Wrigley in Game 7 of 2003 and seeing Woody hit his homer -- thinking the jinx was broken and we were going win. Well, 2003 just got me another broken heart. Chase got me $425. It was weird being a Philly fan for a night. Don't think I could do that again. Don't recommend it for others either, unless desperate in Vegas.
