Scott Eyre: "Only One Bad Game" For Cubs?

This is how Scott Eyre interprets his departure from the Cubs: "I had one bad game as a Cub, man, and it was here," Eyre said. "And then I got in Lou's doghouse and never pitched again." Yes, he had a bad game in Tampa - and it lost the game for the Cubs. But was it his only "bad game as a Cub"? No. Here are three consecutive games that Eyre pitched in 2008: June 19, 2008, vs Tampa: 1/3 inning, 3 ER, 3 H June 26, 2008, vs Baltimore: 1/3 inning, 2 ER, 1 H, 1 BB July 31, 2008, vs Milwaukee: 1/3 inning, 3 ER, 3 H Three-game totals: 1 inning, 8 ER, 8 H, 72.00 ERA Not good. Let's look at 2007: April 5, 2007, vs Cincinnati: 1 inning, 2 ER, 2 H, 1 BB April 8, 2007, vs Milwaukee: 1 inning, 3 ER, 3 H, 1 BB April 18, 2007, vs Atlanta: 2/3 inning, 3 ER, 3 H, 2 BB April 23, 2007, vs Milwaukee: 2/3 inning, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 BB May 6, 2007, vs Washington: 1.1 innings, 1 ER, 1 H, 2 BB (and his ERA went down) May 28, 2007, vs Florida: 2 innings, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 BB June 25, 2007, vs Colorado: 1.1 innings, 3 ER, 3 H, 2 BB June 30, 2007, vs Milwaukee: 2 innings, 2 ER, 3 H, 2 BB Aug. 11, 2007, vs Colorado: 1.1 inning, 2 ER, 3 H So, that's at least 12 bad games in a season and a half while playing for Lou. There were a couple in 2006, but he was by and large very good that year while pitching for Dusty Baker. Eyre thinks the two are related: "Maybe he's not the type of manager I succeed for. Because the guys I have pitched well for during my career are Felipe Alou, Dusty Baker, guys that are more mellow, more calm." In other words: "Lou was mean to me." Lou's answer: "I happen to like him a lot. I mean, I did dislike him as a pitcher."
