Trib Selling Cubs, Canceling Their AP Subscription

No more AP service for the Trib? "Our contract requires that we give the Associated Press two years notice before terminating it," the Tribune said. "Today we simply informed AP of our intention to terminate the contract on October 15, 2010." Pretty clear, right? Not to the AP: Paul Colford, an AP spokesman, confirmed that the New York-based wire service had received a notice from the Tribune but told AFP "it's not a cancellation notice at all. Under the agreements that member newspapers and newspaper companies have with the AP they have to serve notice that they may terminate their membership two years hence," Colford said. "But they could pull back, they could decide at day's end that all is well." Or they could decide to "terminate the contract," as they said.
