Wednesday Morning (Non-Cubs) Links
Written by wrigleyville
Tuesday, 14 October 2008
Now that we're in the offseason, we'll go back to posting a semi-regular round of odd or interesting links that would otherwise not warrant their own post at this fine blog. Without further ado, here is your Wednesday morning edition of Stuff From The InterWeb: PETA is upset with Shane Victorino (Mr. October) because he likes Spam musabi. From PETA: "We suspect that the cruelty in every can of Spam will infuriate Shane more than a high Hiroki Kuroda fastball. If Shane likes Spam a lot, he should buy tickets to the Broadway play but leave it off his dinner plate." Their PR person should be fired. I still miss Bob Knight, who said: “If you get caught cheating, they should shoot you. Because you’re too dumb to be alive.” The New York Times obituary page is one of the more curious pieces of landscape in American journalism. To wit: "David Lett, who planted the first commercial pinot noir vineyard in Oregon, opening the way for what became a thriving pinot noir industry, died Thursday at his home in Dundee, Ore. He was 69." It's amazing the things the Times deems "fit to print." And then there's Ohio: "Poll workers from opposing sides in the presidential race apparently clashed in a physical altercation Friday at a Cuyahoga Falls nursing home when one accused the other of improperly marking a ballot. George Manos, the 75-year-old Republican, told police that Edith Walker, the 73-year-old Democrat, jumped on his back and struck him in the head three to four times with her fists."
