Astros Fans, Time To Let It Go
Written by wrigleyville
Saturday, 20 September 2008
The comment of the week comes from a presumed Astros fan in this post, in which he/she explains to us how the Astros have been wronged by Bud Selig, Carlos Zambrano's no-hitter deserves an asterisk, and I'm an idiot: chisselmonkey: Only an idiot chicago fan wouldn't understand something like this. Only in a city where the fans run out on to the field to beat umps and reach out onto the field to rob their own team would people not understand that most of the Astro's roster actually grew up in SE TX. Bud just wanted some revenue for his home town stadium, and wanted to rig it to give his brew crew a shot at the playoffs. It's been said on the radio in Houston that cubbies were talking trash about the no-no, wait i mean no-no*. Yeah, that's class. That's why no one likes that greasy crap whole chicago except new yorkers who think its just a slightly cleaner new jersey. Cubs will never win so long as they keep incurring curses like this. Take a page from Beantown and try'n not act like idiots. Let's take it point by point: 1. Only an idiot chicago fan wouldn't understand something like this. Others in the national media have said that MLB really didn't have any other options, after Drayton dithered and pretended like a mammoth storm wasn't coming. But they may be part of the massive "idiot chicago fan" cabal. 2. Only in a city where the fans run out on to the field to beat umps and reach out onto the field to rob their own team would people not understand that most of the Astro's roster actually grew up in SE TX. a. That was the South Side. b. Leave Bartman alone. It was Alex Gonzalez who blew that game. c. Five members of the Astros active roster come from "SE TX" - JR Towles, Brandon Backe, Mark Saccomanno, Michael Bourn, and Chris Sampson - based on their birthplaces. The rest come from Connecticut, Venezuela, Waco, California, Venezuela, California, Japan, Puerto Rico, California, Dominican Republic, California, Georgia, North Dakota, Fort Worth, Dominican Republic, Detroit, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Los Angeles, Buffalo, Indiana, North Carolina, Venezuela, Mississippi, Dominican Republic, Dominican Republic, California and Alabama. Therefore, chisselmonkey apparently believes: i. The Astros have a 9 man roster. ii. An incredible number of players moved from California, Venezuela, the Dominican, North Dakota or Indiana to "SE TX" when they were young. 3. Bud just wanted some revenue for his home town stadium, and wanted to rig it to give his brew crew a shot at the playoffs. As opposed to Drayton, who wanted to play the games in Houston solely "to stand by his players and their families." The Cubs offered to play all three in Tampa. Drayton said "no." 4. It's been said on the radio in Houston that cubbies were talking trash about the no-no, wait i mean no-no*. Yeah, that's class. Nice passive tense there - "it has been said." By whom? To whom? LaTroy Hawkins? Not sure why anyone would bother. Let's assume it's true. Shall we compare that to how the Astros have behaved - whining since before the hurricane even hit? They easily could have gotten out of town - with their families. They - and their owner - all have the resources to do so. They all make more than me, and I would have gotten my family out of town. The Astros active roster is not made up of people from the Ninth Ward in New Orleans.
5. That's why no one likes that greasy crap whole (sic) chicago except new yorkers who think its just a slightly cleaner new jersey. As opposed to everybody's favorite city - Houston! By the way, I like Chicago and I'm not a New Yorker. Quick - show of hands: Who likes Chicago? 6. Cubs will never win so long as they keep incurring curses like this. How many World Series have the Astros won? Are they cursed? Is it your fault? Bud's? I'm confused. 7. Take a page from Beantown and try'n not act like idiots. New England fans are your example of class? Got it.
