Dusty Wins Golden Ticket
Written by wrigleyville

I won, I won, I won....the chance to buy today two tickets to a Cubs NLDS game! Very exciting, especially since I'm Irish and I never win anything. The problem is I didn't realize I had won until almost too late. So this post is actually meant to help those Cubs fans who entered into the "lottery" for the "opportunity" to buy two tickets to the NLDS and NLCS (which will be drawn at a later date.) Being on the email list for cubs.com, I get emails daily from them. Thus, when I saw a cubs.com in the midst of hundreds of other emails last night about 10 p.m. eastern, I ignored it for more pressing emails. The subject line on my blackberry simply read: "Cubs Postseason...." So thought it was just a story about the upcoming playoffs. But the Cubs being the good guys they are sent me a reminder email this morning that the "opportunity" to buy two tickets would begin at Noon central today and gave me my passcode. This was at 8:30 a.m., hence I was rushing to work and then rushing into meetings and completely missed the email. Until, I was taking my son who broke his collarbone to see the orthopedic surgeon and was sitting in the doctor's office bored. So, I went back to catch up on emails and saw "cubs.com" but in the subject line on my blackberry (which has limited space for subject lines for those who don't have one) it said "NLDS Ticket O...." NLDS and Tickets, even I could figure that was one worth opening. And indeed I had won a Golden Ticket for the opportunity to buy 2 tickets to one of the NLDS games at Wrigley. Unfortunately, I opened this email at 12:15 central -- 15 minutes after tickets went on sale. Plus I was at the surgeon's office. Plus, buying the tix wouldn't work on my blackberry.....So, indeed, it looked as though my Irish luck was at play and Charlie would end up with a Golden Ticket but no Chocolate Factory. So I shuffle back into the office about 2:30 p.m. and say what the heck, I'll see if tickets are left. And as luck would have it -- there were! Dusty is now the proud owner of two tickets to Game 2 of the NLDS, free to stand wherever I can find a spot in Wrigley Field. Yes, they're standing room only. But they're in the house. And afterall, wouldn't Charlie still be happy just for the opportunity to stand in the Chocolate Factory? So my public service message for all those in the lottery: If you get something from cubs.com between now and the end of the Cubs season (which will be the night we win the World Series, btw) -- A.) open it. B.) get into the queue or "virtual waiting room" as early as it will let you. C.) Pick the game you want and go for that first. D.) Have all your credit card and home info ready because it literally gives you 90 seconds to 3 minutes to enter all your information, depending on what stage of the site you're in. E.) Type fast....start practicing now. F. ) You're not guaranteed tickets, just the "opportunity" to buy them. G.) Take whatever the computer gives you first and be happy that you're going to the dance! Even if you're standing. I learned items A, C, D and G myself (I already knew E from prior ticket buying experience). My sister, unfortunately, won a Golden Ticket too....but learned and passes along items B, D, E and G. She got in, got too picky on what game and what seats, didn't type fast enough when she did get seats so she lost them to a faster typer....and ended up with no tickets. Out of frustration, once she lost out on her real seats she didn't keep going for standing room only. Though her brother will stand by his baby sister by taking her to stand by him on Oct. 2 in Wrigley. So a happy ending for the Dusty family with some important morals to this story for all as well. Go Cubs Go!
