If Only There Were An Empty Ballpark Somewhere
Written by wrigleyville

With Ike bearing down on Houston and the Cubs sitting at home catching up on chores, it would seem to be a good time to provide Bud Selig with a list of cities with Major League ballparks that are home to baseball teams playing on the road this weekend (unless there is a Journey reunion concert or something else I'm not aware of). (Update: It looks like the series could be played in Milwaukee.) Just click on the city name to see a picture of the ballpark, just in case you don't believe they exist. 1. Minneapolis. Unavailable. Vikings playing Sunday. 2. Milwaukee. It's a home game for the Cubs when they play the Brewers, so maybe this wouldn't be fair. 3. Toronto. This is in Canada, so it's like 12 degrees up there. But there is a roof. 4. Kansas City. Lots of rain there this weekend, too. 5. Tampa Bay. There's a roof there, too. 6. St. Louis. Rain here, too. Missouri is wet. 7. Washington. Less rain, especially Saturday and Sunday. 8. Atlanta. Lovely. 9. Detroit. Detroit is north of Canada, so it'll probably be cold there. 10. Los Angeles. Look at that mountain; Look at those trees; Look at that bum over there, man he's down on his knees; Look at these women; There ain't nothin' like 'em nowhere. 11. Cincinnati. Les Nessman says 40-70 percent chance of rain all weekend. 12. Seattle. Roof there, too. 13. Texas. Too close to the hurricane, of course. 14. San Francisco. Lots of dirty, dirty hippies. So, that leaves us with Milwaukee, Toronto, Tama Bay, Washington, Atlanta, Detroit Los Angeles, Cincinnati, Seattle and San Francisco (if you can tolerate dirty, dirty hippies) as options for the Cubs and the Astros to play the baseball this weekend - rather than hoping against hope that this massive storm doesn't make Houston unvisitable for a few days. So what does baseball do? The latter. Shrewd as ever, Bud. Very shrewd. (At the end of the day (or even the beginning), it is just baseball. But what about my needs? What am I supposed to do - watch the Phillies and Brewers??)
