NL Postseason Scenarios? They're Complicated

Here are some rotation-taxing National League playoff scenarios for Cubs fans to root for going into the playoffs (not even bringing potential makeup games into the mix), courtesy of the New York Times: 1. If the Phillies, Mets and Brewers all finish with the same record after Sunday (presuming the teams all get in 162 games by then), the Mets and Phillies would play in Philadelphia on Monday to determine the National League East champion. The loser would play host to the Brewers on Tuesday to determine the wild card winner. 2. If the Phillies win the N.L. East, and the Mets and Brewers finish the season with the same record, there will be a one-game playoff on Monday at Shea to determine the wild card winner. 3. If the Phillies and Mets are tied after 162 games but have a worse record than Milwaukee, the Brewers win the wild card, and the Mets and Phillies will play Monday in Philadelphia to determine the N.L. East champion. 4. If the Mets and Phillies finish with the same record, and that record is better than the Brewers’, both teams advance to the postseason. The Mets, by virtue of their better head-to-head record against the Phillies, would win the division. The Phillies would win the wild card. I, for one, am hoping for No. 1.
