The Official Wrigleyville23 NL Central Projections
Happy Opening Day!
Here are your official Wrigleyville23 2008 NL Central projections - in case you can't bear to sit through 162 games over the next six months and just want to know how it will all turn out. It's all right here:
1. Cubs 89-73. The Cubs will start slow (again) and pass the fading Brewers on August 7.
2. Brewers 85-77. The Brewers will start fast (again) and be passed by the surging Cubs on August 7.
3. Reds 83-79. They would win the division, except Dusty Baker made Corey Patterson the starting center fielder.
4. Cardinals 76-86. Even worse if Albert's elbow needs to go into the shop.
5. Pirates 75-87. A pleasant surprise. But still fifth.
6. Astros 74-88. I just don't care enough to write anything about the Astros.
Note: These were done off the top of my head and with no formal research or training. No computers were involved - other than the one I'm typing on, but it doesn't know how to do baseball projections. Just searches for Erin Andrews pictures. And online poker. But mostly searches for Erin Andrews pictures.
Anyway, you can compare them to the computer projections here.

The computer that sits on my shoulders only searches for Erin Andrews pictures as well. Funny how that works.
PS, I like how you gave the Brewers' projection in pink. Touche.
Happy Opening Day, kids!
But, will there be an Opening Day? I'm hearing that it's raining in Chicago all day today.
The genius schedule-makers at work. Why would they schedule a game in Chicago on 03/31 against a team that has a dome and is only 90 miles from Wrigley?
is it more apt to rain on 3/31 than, say 4/7? 4/8? 4/11?
you could make all the northern teams play on the road for the whole month of april, but that would seem to put them at a competitive disadvantage.
it is rainy and gross here today, but they think there will be a window to get the game in this afternoon.
(crosses fingers)
WV, when the summer opponents are Florida, Los Angeles, San Franswerski...it kind of makes one think on the matter.
bah, you and ben sheets can stop worrying. short of building a dome, the cubs and tigers and indians and mets and phillies and sox and sox and yankees can play at home in april just like everyone else. it'll be cold and rainy for everyone. still have to play.
I was just sayin' is all.
I agree with WV. No consideration whatsoever should be given to the weather when making the schedule. If you put the northern teams on the road in April they have more home games in September, which would obviously be nice, but just let the computers spit out the schedule. If it rains, it rains. That's why they off days throughout the season.
I'm pretty happy the Cubs begin at Wrigley because they have no excuse to not get off to a good start. I'm in favor of anything that reduces the number of possibilities one can use to make excuses for this team.
plus, nutsack, you're agreeing with ben sheets. that is unacceptable.
Ben Sheets and I go way back.
WV -- Keep bashing Dusty all the way to the Reds being the reason the streak gets pushed to 101 years. We're gonna regret dumping him.
I'm hopeful just as any Cubs fan -- but this isn't a "great" team we're putting on the field. It's certainly not a team that has any room for error -- pitching, defense or hitting.
We're clearly going to need a magical year -- and a helluva midseason trade to get to the World Series and end the streak. And I'm not sold on Brian Roberts being that midseason trade -- agree with A-Ram on DeRosa. Not flashy but he gets job done.
A 'roidsless Roberts worries me. Your kids are all taller than him. And I'm not exaggerating.
How is that bashing Dusty? It actually is bashing Corey Patterson, a player to whom I held a long misguided loyalty.
And another thing: It is a credit to Dusty that I think the Reds will win 83 games.
I'll be more than happy to bash Dusty.
Dusty does not look good in red, by the way. Definitely not his color.
If Pie isn't panning out by midsummer (which means it's unlikely he ever will) and Cubs put some distanced between themselves and Reds....wouldn't be a bad thing to snag Junior off the Reds for the stretch run. Heck, maybe see if they'll take Murton instead; problem is Dusty knows him too well. Especially fact he can't run without falling down.
And, Murton clogs those damn bases too much. Dude.
