Thank You To MLB And Fox Sports
Written by wrigleyville

Thanks to the collective wisdom of the Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball and Fox Sports, the greater metropolitan Philadelphia area got to see all 54 outs and 26 runs of the 22-4 Indians-Yankees game today.

Conversely, we in Philadelphia (a National League city, by the way) saw none of the Cardinals-Cubs game.

Therefore, while we in Philly were watching Mark DeRosa hit a three-run homer followed by a Victor Martinez solo shot in the top of the fifth to give the Indians a 20-2 lead, Fox and MLB had decided it wouldn't be worth showing us the top of seventh in Chicago as Carlos Marmol came on with two on and nobody out to retire Rick Ankiel, Albert Pujols and Ryan Ludwick in order.

Nor did MLB and Fox think it would be worthwhile for those of us in Philly to see the bottom of the 11th, when Aramis Ramirez hit a walkoff two-run homer to give the Cubs the dramatic win over their biggest rival. Instead, we got to watch Jose Molina pop out to second in the bottom of the ninth to complete a 22-4 game.

I understand contracts are contracts. I understand you can't predict which games will be good. And I understand that in this era of the Extra Innings package I get more baseball games on my TV machine than I could ever watch.

But I also understand common sense.

Once the Yankees were down 14-2 or 15-2 or 16-2 or 20-2, maybe - just maybe - Fox and MLB should have the flexibility and common sense take us to another game. Like the Cubs-Cardinals. A game that ended with a walkoff bomb. In extras - and not in the second inning, like that other game in the Bronx.

For those of you in a similar situation, here is the video of Aramis Ramirez's walkoff home run.
