Phil Rogers Offers (Un)Sound Advice (Again)

Phil Rogers - who is absolutely wrong about everything - earlier this season called on the Cubs to trade Carlos Zambrano for "a bag of balls."

Today, he's calling on the Cubs to cut Milton Bradley. Not explore trades. Not let the offseason come for a cooling-off period. Cut him. Eat the salary. When the going gets tough, Phil wants everyone out of Wrigley.

In his mess, Phil includes this sentence:

For a variety of reasons, almost all of his own making, Bradley has not been a contributor for manager Lou Piniella and the Cubs, at least not in normal terms. You could count him -- and Hendry's decision to get him -- as the leading contributor to the epic 2009 disappointment.

This is only true if you believe Bradley separated Aramis Ramirez's shoulder, sold Geovany Soto his dope and Oreos, Gilloolied Alfonso Soriano's knee and forced him to play on it game after game, blew leads in the bullpen, and batted for the second baseman all year.

Otherwise, singling out the batter with the highest (or second, depending on the day) OBP on the team as "the leading contributor to the epic 2009 disappointment" seems rather unserious.

Then again, judging the situation before him has never been Phil's strength. As a reminder, Phil is the person who said the Cubs made a mistake in letting Mark Prior go.

In short: Get rid of Zambrano and Bradley. Keep Prior.

Keep up the good work, Phil. The Trib is getting its money's worth.
