Throwing Away Good Money On Cubs

Prior to a baseball season, have you ever bet on the Cubs to win the World Series? Tons of folks do, as noted by a San Antonio columnist:

According to Las Vegas officials, one of the popular developments each year is watching visiting Chicago fans come in to the sports books and drop coin on the Cubs reaching the World Series. Despite the fact the team represents one of the major leagues' more hapless stories of frustration, the bets keep arriving. "Everybody wants to come in and get a Cub ticket and go home, 'Look, I bet on the Cubs,'" David Pemberton, director of specialty games at The Rio, told the Chicago Sun-Times last week. He added, "One of the jokes is when people buy a Cubs ticket, we tell people, 'No one's ever cashed one.'"

As a semi-regular visitor to Las Vegas, I can say I have never taken that bet. I did bet on the Colts to win the Super Bowl the year they won it (at 5-2 or so?) but lost the ticket.

Oh yeah, they beat the Bears, by the way. In case you all had forgotten.
