Bill Simmons Takes More Shots At ESPN
Written by wrigleyville
Saturday, 31 January 2009
simmons.jpgBill Simmons continues to seem a little miffed with his employer in his pre-Super Bowl megachat.

First, he expresses displeasure with ESPN for not crediting him for the network's Mount Rushmore of Sports project:

Zo (Arlington, VA): So, you have started a new Hall of Fame: The Donovan McNabb Comedy Hall of Fame for athletes/entertainers who try to be funny in such an awkward manner that it is actually more creepy than anything. So, you have McNabb and Kobe. I would also throw in Superbowl Week with Kurt Warner as well. Who else joins the club?

SportsNation Bill Simmons: If you made a Mount Rushmore for it (I look forward to SportsCenter stealing this idea and not giving me credit or even emailing me to say they are doing it - thanks guys, it's great being on the same team with you!), I'd go with...

And he comes back later to clarify what he meant:

Jay (Toronto): So what did SportsCenter steal from you without telling you first?

SportsNation Bill Simmons: The Mount Rushmore gimmick. I've been doing that in columns and mailbags for at least 18 months. Even did a whole Mount Rapmore last February. I just think it's petty to say, "hey, that's a good idea, let's take it."

Finally, he expresses his displeasure with ESPN's rule that ESPN employees can't be on non-ESPN shows:

Kevin (Chappaqua, NY): ... My question though is if you were asked to go on both shows and only had time for one, who you going with?

SportsNation Bill Simmons: I would go on Mike's show. There's a 85% chance that Dog has never read a single thing I've written. Mike and I have a love-hate relationship (mostly love) but at least he reads me... the last time I was on, they grabbed me on Media Row and I was sick... I want a second chance... sadly it can never happen because I am not allowed to go on non-ESPN shows ... even though the show that goes against Mike's (Michael Kay) has never asked me to come on. Yup, this is my company.

Good times in Bristol.
