Buster Olney Is Not Impressed
Written by wrigleyville

Buster Olney says the Cubs are making offseason mistakes. The Cubs went into the offseason devoted to adding a left-handed hitter, and if they complete their negotiations with Milton Bradley, on paper, their lineup will look more balanced; on paper, their lineup will look better. But I'll be honest: I don't like the moves they've made at all. Thank you for being honest, Buster. That builds trust between you, the writer, and me, the reader. Though I am wary whenever someone says "But I'll be honest." He doesn't like Bradley and believes the Cubs should have kept Mark DeRosa (and lose him after 2009) and re-signed Jim Edmonds, while holding on to prospects based on the hope the Rays would trade Carl Crawford to them. That certainly is a reasonable argument (beyond assuming the Rays would trade Crawford to the Cubs and not a dozen others who may want him). I don't mind looking to improve/balance out/whatever the best team in the National League. While they most likely won't win 97 games, their pitching staff is better and they likely won't need to win more than 90 to win the NL Central. And, of course, Buster Olney is never wrong - as evidenced by the Indians' 2008 World Series win over the Cubs. Not to mention the fact that Jake Peavy was traded to the Braves before Thanksgiving.
