Lay Off Woo Woo, Would You?

woopic.jpgA Cubs blogger who believes he is actually the real Chicago Cubs team mascot, writing on Ronnie Woo Woo:

He's not really a loyal Cubs fan. He's a fan of himself. It's always "all about him". If he wants to stand next to you and yell in your ear for an hour, well then, you just have to let him. That happened to me one day in Mesa -- finally, the Mesa police came and threw him out.

He spends the rest of his time groping college-age women; why they allow this is beyond me.

If he'd respond to polite requests to go elsewhere when he's making his annoying sounds, I might let it go. But he won't. As I said, it's always all about him.

From the Web site for "Woo Life, One Life Saved By The Game Of Baseball":

Thanks to his grandmother's determination to save him from his physically and mentally abusive mother by introducing him to baseball and religion, a young Ronnie becomes inspired after watching Jackie Robinson play at Wrigley Field and flees his unloving home on the South Side in search of a better life on the North Side.

What Ronnie discovers in the bleachers of Wrigley Field is a foster family of Cub fans and baseball players that awakened his spirit and gave him a feeling of self-worth, respect and love that was never there for him with his biological family.

Is Ronnie annoying? Undoubtedly.

Is it "all about him"? I'm not certain what that means, but it usually is with the mentally ill or borderline mentally ill (just a guess here).

Is he a loyal Cubs fan? Ronnie is many, many things - primary of which is a "loyal Cubs fan." Take the Cubs away from him and he very likely would be dead in a month. And he wears his Cubs uniform everywhere he goes, which is a pretty good sign he is a, yes, "loyal Cubs fan."

Beyond that, who is some middle-aged scold to determine who is - and is not - a "loyal fan"?

Stay classy, Bleed Cubbie Blue.
