Paper: Cubs Fans Depressed By Obama, Cards
Written by wrigleyville

obama.jpgJeff Wolf offers this piece of keen insight in the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

Pity the Chicago Cubs and their fans, who haven't been able to celebrate a World Series title since 1908.

The past three days might have been especially depressing for them.

After the Cubs were knocked out of the National League playoffs by the Los Angeles Dodgers last fall, their fans never would have guessed the Arizona Cardinals would reach the Super Bowl and the United States would elect a black president before the Cubs would get back to a World Series.

So, if they had been asked to guess on October 4, 2008 - the day the Cubs were knocked out by the Dodgers - Cubs fans could not have figured out the following:

1. The Cardinals would reach the Super Bowl before the Cubs made the World Series. I can't fathom why anybody would have pondered such a subject, but OK. I'll give you that one.

2. A black man would be elected president before the Cubs reached the World Series. On October 4, 2008, Barack Obama was one of only two people in the world who had a reasonable shot at becoming president. On October 4, 2008, Barack Obama led John McCain in the daily tracking polls 51 percent to 45 percent. On October 4, 2008, Barack Obama was widely believed to be a black man.

But, according to Jeff Wolf, Cubs fans couldn't possible fathom that the Cubs would not get back to the World Series before a black person was elected president.

I think he just called you all dumb.
