Here's the latest from the angry old man on the South Side regarding his botched "reporting" on the alleged Milton Bradley trade to Detroit:
BaseballStone To all the people who believe who believe that david kaplan and i made up the bradley story---get a life. Trade deadline rumors are not new.
This is notable for two reasons:
1. Steve Stone never attributed his original Tweet to anyone other than "Rumor" ("rumor is that tigers are interested for trading for milton bradley.").
So, yes, trade deadline rumors are not new. But those rumors with any substance are attributable to someone - not just the nether regions of Steve Stone's vacuous Tweets. The rules of journalism require some characterization of the source ("a source close to the Tigers" or "a longtime scout with knowledge of the discussions").
Otherwise, people think you made it up. And that is a reasonable conclusion.
2. Steve Stone is suggesting that those of us who doubt him need to "get a life," which is excellent advice - especially for someone who dwells on his former employer via Twitter like Adam Sandler pines for his ex in "The Wedding Singer."
In fact, here are all of Steve Stone's Tweets about the Cubs in the last month. Note how many are about Milton Bradley (in bold), and then consider who needs to "get a life" while remembering this is a White Sox broadcaster.
