This was entirely predictable:

Sammy Sosa is one of the major league baseball players who tested positive for a banned substance in 2003, the New York Times is reporting, citing lawyers who have knowledge of the drug-testing results from that year.

That year was the first in which Major League Baseball conducted survey tests to see if mandatory, random drug-testing was needed. There were no penalties for a positive result in 2003.

Results from the 2003 surveys were supposed to remain anonymous.

As noted previously, it doesn't change my opinion about him (or anyone else who used) in any way. He is among my favorite Cubs ever and will remain so, short of an OJ-like meltdown.

Except those who refuse to believe or look at the simple evidence before them, it was very obvious dozens and dozens and dozens of players used through the years.

While in high school (late '80s), I wrote a paper on suspected steroid use in sports. While in college (early '90s), I wrote the same paper on steroid use in sports. If I could wrap my mind around it as an impressionable teen-ager in central Indiana, I think the professional scolds in Congress, the media and the message boards can stop acting shocked - shocked! - every time a Sosa, a Rodriguez, a Clemens or a Ramirez is publicly exposed.
