A Proposal For Fantasy Baseball Drafts

We never blog about our fantasy teams here, as nobody cares. But in drafting in the neighborhood league team this evening, we came up with a good rule to combat those owners who repeatedly pick previously selected players.

Punitive picks. Instead of making owners skip their pick if they try to select an already drafted player, they have to select an agreed upon player. Like Aaron Rowand.

Rounds 1-5: You get zero chances. You pick a player who has already been selected and you have to take the agreed-upon player. Think Ryan Theriot-like players here.

Rounds 6-12: You get one chance. You can pick one player who has already been selected. If you get another wrong, you have to take the agreed-upon player. Think Kosuke Fukudome.

Rounds 13-20: You get two chances. After that, you get a Koyie Hill-type player.

Rounds 21 and up: You get three chances. After that, you get Bob Howry.

It will force those owners who can't cross names off of a piece of paper to pay attention, and it will punish absent-minded owners. Win-win.
