It's a miracle.

The Wall Street Journal's new (tiny) sports section has a fun little feature on the South African baseball team, which is in for a beating in the World Baseball Classic:

South Africa has no professional baseball league, a minuscule fan base and little experience playing on anything but overgrown rugby and cricket fields. Its bid to win the second World Baseball Classic, which kicks off Thursday, is, to say the least, puzzling.

The country hasn't produced a single major leaguer to date and was slaughtered in the first round of the 2006 classic by the U.S. This year, South Africa's squad is even greener: 14 players on the roster aren't old enough to get into the bars in Scottsdale, Ariz., where they're staying, and one of the team's most promising pitchers, Hein Robb, is only 16. Wednesday, South Africa lost a warm-up game to the Los Angeles Angels 13-6.

How in the world did they score six runs against the Angels - even if it was the Angels' rookie league team?

On the upside (at least for the ladies), there are two underwear models on the team.
