Steve Stone, Just Making Things Up

Steve Stone is (repeatedly) on record excoriating the Cubs for signing Milton Bradley (and essentially every other move, since he believes he should be the GM and owner).

Today, according to the always reliable Melissa, he had this to say:

When asked about what kind of season he thinks Bradley will have based upon how good he has looked this spring he said,  "I think he's going to have a great season if he stays in Arizona."  He went on to say that he doesn't think Bradley will fare well in the cold April and May days in Chicago or be able to stay healthy.

Interesting. But certainly not supported by history.

Bradley played in balmy Cleveland in April 2002 and 2003. Here is how he fared in home games and road games in cold-weather cities in April in those two years (small sample sizes be damned):

2002: .297 BA, .436 OBP in games in Cleveland, Detroit and Chicago.

2003: .365 BA, .412 OBP in games in Baltimore, Kansas City, Cleveland and Chicago.

Thinking perhaps these were unseasonably balmy days in 2003 (given Al Gore's warming of the globe), I found that the high temperatures in Cleveland during home games in 2003 were 39, 37, 46, 56, 50, 48, 75, 82, 79 and 62.

Until that 75-degree day, Bradley was batting .423 on the cold, cold home stand.

Thank you for you input, Mr. Stone. Please show your work in the future.
