The Chicago Cubs were the eighth best professional sports franchise in 2008, based on record and the bottom line - one ahead of the world champion Philadelphia Phillies, according to BizJournals.

They analyzed the performances of all 122 franchises in the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL for the 2008 calendar year. Half of the team's score was determined by performance on the field, with the other half coming in the balance book.

The top 10:

1. Boston Celtics.
2. New York Giants.
3. Los Angeles Lakers.
4. Montreal Canadiens.
5. Boston Red Sox.
6. Detroit Pistons.
7. Detroit Red Wings.
8. Chicago Cubs.
9. Philadelphia Phillies.
