The Angry Cub Fan & Geovany Soto

Consider the following facts about the Chicago Cubs:

Aramis Ramirez has appeared in just 18 games and has fewer at-bats than Reed Johnson, Aaron Miles and Micah Hoffpauir.

The other Opening Day corner infielder, Derrek Lee, has an OBP of .313 and is slugging .406.

Milton Bradley is batting .200.

Ryan Dempster has an ERA of 4.99 - 69 percent higher than last year's 2.96.

Rich Harden has an ERA of 4.74 - 167 percent higher than last year's 1.77.

Various members of the bullpen have ERAs of 5.49, 5.12 (the closer), 6.91 and 7.36.

Given all that, it is of course only natural to conclude the following about catcher Geovany Soto:

But this year, his league-worst OPS+ and GIDP, along with his 22% stolen-base prevention, is a major reason (nay, the biggest reason) why this team with the 3rd highest payroll in the major leagues is one game over .500.  As I stated yesterday, this is a simple fact, and honestly, if you disagree with the previous sentence, then not only are you not watching the same ball games I am, you also cannot read and comprehend English.

Soto has had a very rough start to the year, undoubtedly due in part to a bum shoulder he seems to be playing through. But his slow start is the "biggest reason" the Cubs are one game over .500?

Not the fact that No. 3/4 hitter Derrek Lee is aging in dog years? Not the fact that '70s-like inflation has hit the ERAs of the pitching staff? Not the fact that their All-Star third baseman has appeared in less than half the games?

Does the author really believe that Geovany Soto is the "biggest reason" the Cubs are struggling - especially when Soto has put up a respectable .286 average and .370 OBP in May? Or is he being an ass for the sake of being an ass?

Judging by the rest of the post, it's the latter and he just may not be able to help himself.

(And as far as my ability to "read and comprehend English," it's a lot easier to do so when the author doesn't use nine commas over the course of two sentences. Remember: declarative sentences are your friends.)
