Here is a question from one Joe P. Hutchinson from Glendale, Arizona, in Paul Sullivan's mailbag:

In regards to the reader and your agreement regarding dumping Hoffpauir, Jake Fox and then go after Chone Figgins, are you kidding? We develop players and then discard them so we can overpay for free agents such as Soria no; Fukudome and Bradley??!!  It's a shame when even our very own Cubs beat writer is thinking in terms of fantasy baseball rather than rooting for our very own players to be given the opportunity to shine. --Joe P. Hutchinson, Glendale Ariz.

A quick question for Joe P. Hutchinson of Glendale, Arizona: Please name the last player that the Cubs "developed" and "discarded" that was worth a damn?

The best I can come up with is Ricky Nolasco. Before that? Rafael Palmiero. And he was discarded in 1989, though that may be because he couldn't keep his parts out of Cindy Sandberg.
