Here we go with the daily Steve Rosenbloom ridiculousness:

Wainwright won his 18th game Wednesday to lead the majors. Zambrano won his eighth Wednesday to still trail rookie Randy Wells.

Wainwright became the first National League pitcher to surpass 200 innings. Zambrano was removed after only six innings against the Pathetic Pirates because the alleged ace's fitness is in question after admitting he's too lazy to follow an exercise regimen.

Wainwright has allowed more than two earned runs in just one of his last 15 starts. Zambrano has allowed more than two earned runs about half the time in the last two months.

Wainwright pitched shutout ball Wednesday for the fifth time in his last 13 starts, allowing just 17 earned runs in 91 innings for a 1.68 ERA in that stretch. Zambrano won for the first time since July 22.

Zambrano famously talked about winning a Cy Young, which has remained a fantasy. Wainwright arguably is the most likely NL pitcher to make it a reality this year.

On the up side, it appears he was able to spell everything right today. On the down side, he's harping on a player who:

1. Has an ERA of 3.77 this year.

2. Gotten no decisions or losses in 10 quality starts this year.

3. In the top five in MLB in wins, starts and strikeouts since he entered the league.

Yes, Steve, you can continue to agitate over how much players are paid - whether it is Z, Alfonso Soriano, Milton Bradley or Lou. But rest assured that each and every one of them - including Aaron Miles - has given the Tribune a better return on investment than they have received on your meager salary.

Also, spare us your lectures on laziness. You still haven't bothered to go back and correct two misspellings in one sentence from two days ago. And you know it's there. Just can't bother to fix it. Because you're, um, lazy.
